Billy Nankouma Konaté

  • Quebec City: October 3rd-5th
  • Montreal: October 11-13th
  • Newmarket (GTA): October  17-19th

The son of djembe legend Famoudou Konaté, Billy Nankouma Konaté began his journey with Malinke music when he was but a child. His greatest desire has always been to become, like his father and teacher, a great djembefola, and he has devoted his life to this instrument and its music. He spent many years playing for traditional Malinke celebrations, and, in 1993, founded his own group, named « Hamana Sabougnouma ». He has since recorded many albums and toured extensively. He offers yearly workshops in Guinea, in addition to teaching and performing regularly all over Europe, in countries such as Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Italy and Portugal.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn with one of the most remarkable African percussionists of his generation! Allow him to share with you his passion, his culture and his music.

Each workshop includes 4 hours of in-depth instruction on Malinke rhythm. Billy’s teaching style is much like Famoudou’s - students will learn djembe accompaniments, solos, arrangements, dunun parts and variations, and echauffements.
