For those interested in learning about the basic “alphabet” and structure of tabla music, our friends at Kosa Music are organizing a workshop entitled “Indian Rhythm Concepts for Drums & Percussion” to be taught this Sunday by Tabla Guru Pandit Divyang Vakil. No drums or tabla experience required, just your curiosity about the musical rhythms that are created on this amazing classical Indian instrument. We’ll be in Quebec City, but if you’re in Montreal, check it out!

Il me fait grand plaisir d’annoncer que Billy Nankouma Konaté nous revient à nouveau cette année pour une tournée de trois semaines d’ateliers ainsi qu’un concert! Du 3 au 19 octobre, nous offrirons des ateliers à Québec, Montréal et Newmarket (ON). Nos partenaires sont Oké Djembé et Shaw Percussion. J’ai hâte! Et vous? Tous les détails ici.

It is my pleasure to announce that Billy Nankouma Konaté is coming back again this year for a three week workshop tour and concert! From October 3rd to the 19th, we will be offering workshops in Quebec City, Montreal and Newmarket (in the GTA). Our partners this year are Oké Djembé and Shaw Percussion. I can’t wait! C’est écrit “farine” sur les sacs, mais tout ce qu’il y a de blanc là-dedans ce sont certaines des peaux! Vendredi passé, nous sommes allés chercher 28 nouveaux tambours à l’aéroport. Il faut les voir pour le croire, donc je vous mets quelques photos ci-dessous pour vous mettre en appétit…

Attendez-vous à voir des changements sur le site très bientôt! Je suis allé chercher un nouvel arrivage de tambours à l’aéroport aujourd’hui-même. Ils sont magnifiques, si je puis me permettre. Il y a aussi des séssés et des peaux. J’inclus une petite photo préliminaire pour vous mettre en appétit.

Il devrait également y avoir du mouvement au niveau des stages dans un futur pas trop éloigné, mais nous ne sommes pas tout-à-fait encore prêts à faire une annonce. Mais je vous recommande de ne pas trop charger votre horaire au mois d’avril…

New Drums!

Expect to see some movement over here soon! Earlier today I came back from the airport with a brand new shipment of drums. They’re fantastic, if I may say so myself. Also many sets of sese and a fair number of goat skins. I’m including an early image to wet your appetite.

In other news, things are also moving on the workshop front, but we’re not quite ready to make an announcement yet. But April should be a nice month to take a workshop with a master, no?
